Sea of stars maldoves5/18/2023 ![]() ![]() Millions of small, blue neon dots make it look as though stars are washing up on shore. “The Sea of Stars” of Vaadhoo Island Maldives attracts millions of tourists each year. What you’re seeing is actually millions of microscopic organisms called bioluminescent phytoplankton. Some of the most spectacular photographs have been captured from one location, Maldives (an island in an atoll located in the Indian ocean). Vaadhoo island, Maldives, has been nick named “The Sea of Stars” and for a good reason.Īlso known as the ‘’red tide’’, the blue glow in the night is a side effect of the blooming red algae. The Sea of Stars on Vaahdoo Island in the Maldives is a natural wonder that has to be seen to be believed. As a result, during the day the entire beach appears red. The visually stunning bioluminescence (the emission of light from a living organism) is caused by dinoflagellates, a special species of plankton. The bright blue light emitted by the plankton turns the shore into a surreal site. In fact, the beautiful blue light is the result of phytoplankton, which is a very small organism eaten by many whales. A natural chemical reaction called ‘’bioluminescence’’ is the scientific reason behind this occurrence. It is what makes the shore and waves have neon blue particles, as well as their unbelievable twinkle. In case you’re not a marine biologist, technically oxygen disturbing microorganisms in the water is what is causing this to occur. It draws many tourists to Maldives, eager to see the beautiful, natural phenomenon made by millions of marine microbes. Everyone is eager to witness the natural phenomenon that turns water and sand to electric neon blue. This video comes from Wonder World’s YouTube page, which can be viewed here. The Sea of Stars is located on Vaadhoo Island in the Maldives: Sea of Stars on Vaadhoo Island is a Beach in Maldives, Asia. There is currently no additional information available regarding. This extraordinary sea is actually possible because of one of nature’s many phenomenon. ![]() LOCATION The Vaadhoo Island is located on the equator to the south west of Sri Lanka in Indian Ocean of Maldives which is a unique place for an unforgettable. This sea appears to reflect a mirror image of the stars above. ![]() This illusion is actually created by biological light, or bioluminescence, in the waves. The effect of this phenomenon is simply awe-inspiring ( ): The bioluminescence in the water is actually due to marine microbes called phytoplankton that emanate the blue glow. I think that the Sea of Stars is perhaps the most transcending and romantic natural lighting (and of course the Northern Lights.) Not many people are aware of the Sea of Stars but I think this is really a sight that everyone would enjoy seeing. I believe witnessing this phenomenon in action would be one of those moments that a person would always remember. Simply looking at images of the Sea of Stars is enough to take my breath away. The Sea of Stars is located in the Maldives so I think it is only right that I, as I did before in my post on the Maldives as a whole, address environmental issues that the Maldives could be facing. Unfortunately, because of serious environmental problems that cause rising sea levels, there is a chance that the Maldives may lose about 3/4 or more of its land mass before the end of this century. ![]() The Maldives are the flattest pieces of land on earth and is extremely vulnerable to rising sea levels. I would just like to make as much people aware of this because I think this information is not well known. ![]()
